The Swiss regulated lottery and sports betting sector recorded a total turnover of CHF 3.87 billion in 2025, marking a 2.4% decrease from the previous year. Data released by Gespa indicates that gross player yield (BSE) fell to CHF 1.203 billion, while online sales accounted for 24% of the market share.
Per capita stakes on large lotteries and sports betting decreased to CHF 424, with net spending dropping to CHF 132 per resident based on a population of 9,124,300. The increase in the online channel's share was driven by a sharper contraction in land-based revenues rather than growth in digital gambling. Throughout the year, regulators authorized 62 new games and approved 59 modifications, while conducting compliance checks on age restrictions at physical outlets.
Product Performance and Operator Profits
Lotto products and scratchcards maintained their dominance, generating approximately 75% of the total gross player yield. Lotto turnover reached CHF 1.277 billion with a BSE of CHF 583.1 million, while scratchcards generated CHF 810.5 million in turnover and CHF 316.7 million in BSE. Sports betting saw a 4.4% reduction in BSE to CHF 223.2 million, representing roughly 19% of the market.
Terminal-based electronic lotteries and horse racing pools (PMU) also experienced declines, with PMU recording the steepest drop in turnover at 13.7%.
Financial results for the major cross-state operators showed a combined net profit of CHF 814 million. Swisslos reported a net profit of CHF 562 million, a 5.7% decrease, while Loterie Romande saw a 2.3% decline to CHF 252 million.
For comparison, total operator turnover in 2024 stood at CHF 3.87 billion, with a combined net profit of CHF 854 million. The previous year saw a gross player yield of CHF 1.25 billion and per capita stakes of CHF 438.
