A Michigan judge issued a temporary restraining order on Monday requiring Kalshi to suspend all sports-related prediction contracts in the state. The ruling mandates the platform to implement specific geolocation verification before resuming operations.
Court Mandate and Compliance
Ingham Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie E. Aquilina signed the four-page document, which blocks the prediction exchange from listing new sporting event contracts. The court specified that Kalshi must comply with the geolocation requirement to lift the restriction.
Failure to meet the verification standard will result in a daily fine in the six-figure range.
The decision follows ongoing regulatory review of prediction market operators within the state. Gambling Insider reported the initial filing, noting the temporary nature of the restriction. Kalshi must address the verification mandate before the court schedules a further review.
