European Safer Gambling Week 2024 Scheduled for November 18-24

The European Gaming and Betting Association will host the third European Safer Gambling Week from November 18 to 24, 2024. The campaign focuses on promoting responsible gambling practices and addressing the unregulated market across Europe.

Coordinated by the Brussels-based EGBA alongside iGEN and other European iGaming associations, the annual event unites operators, regulators, and harm prevention organizations. The five-day program includes webinars, seminars, and social media initiatives designed to highlight consumer protection issues in the black market.

Responsible gambling initiatives prioritize operational integrity and risk awareness regarding addiction. Industry tools include self-exclusion periods, reality check pop-ups, session time limits, and deposit caps. Players may also utilize permanent account closure or instruct banks to block online gambling transactions.

Previous Year Safety Data

The EGBA Sustainability Report for 2023 indicates that 21 million customers, representing 65% of the user base, utilized safety tools, a 14% increase from the previous year. Deposit limits remained the most frequently used feature. During the 2023 campaign, usage of maximum stake limits rose by over 300%, while operators distributed 67.6 million safety messages.

EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer noted that the sector has achieved significant regulatory progress over the last decade.
